Introducing Geely Innovation Centre

The global vehicle group Geely owns several well-known car brands. Geely’s connection to Gothenburg has grown ever stronger since Zhejiang Geely Holding became owner of Volvo Cars in 2010.

In 2018 the construction of the Geely Innovation Center at Lindholmen in Gothenburg began. As an open platform, the center will bring together people and businesses with a variety of backgrounds and enable intercultural exchange, mutual learning and the emergence of innovative ideas. Here, an exciting combination of restaurants, hotels, cafes and shops will meet offices and premises for conferences and events.

Design and construction of a secure innovation center

The construction of the center is divided into a number of stages, with stage 1 being completed in early 2020. Stage 1 consists of a building of just over 16,000 square meters of office space which holds about 1000 workplaces. At the same time as stage 1  completion, planning and construction of the remaining stages will continue. The entire center is planned to be completed by 2022.
The office buildings in the center will hold a total of 3,500 workplaces for employees of the Geely Group in Gothenburg, including spaces that are open to other companies and the public.

Need for an integrated system that can handle large volumes of users

Pierre Oskarsson, security consultant at Geely, tells us about the work behind the project:
In the design stage, we compiled a comprehensive inquiry basis in which the foundation was an integrated system (access control, intrusion), overall management system with graphic presentation and integrated CCTV system. These systems will be a natural part of Geely Innovation Center’s smart building concept.

What was important to you when choosing a supplier?
We wanted to find a “security partner” with a proven history of delivering comprehensive solutions within high quality security. This included access control systems, intrusion alarms, CCTV, emergency alarms, security services, alarm center services and SBA (strategic fire safety) work. Securitas is the supplier we ultimately chose and Bravida Säkerhet is a subcontractor delivering a large part of the security products from SystemHouse Solutions.

Educational readers makes it easy

What challenges have you encountered during the construction project?
A major challenge during the project has been the time, says Pierre Oskarsson. Geely Innovation Center is one of Sweden’s fastest growing construction projects so it would be strange if it was not noticed. It has been difficult at times but it has been resolved thanks to a strong team effort.

Pierre Oskarsson goes on saying that employees experience several benefits with the Integration system. The new readers are both stylish and educational, which greatly facilitates when 1,000 people move into a new building. The Web-based Artifex interface makes administration of the system flexible and easy to reach without a heavy client interface.
